Technical note: interpreting stable carbon isotopes in human tooth enamel: an examination of tissue spacings from South Africa.
Stable isotope analysis of skeletal tissues is widely used in archeology and paleoanthropology to reconstruct diet. In material that is poorly preserved or very old, the tissue of choice is frequently tooth enamel, since this is less susceptible to diagenesis. The relationships between carbon isotope ratios in tooth enamel (δ(13) C(enamel) ), bone collagen (δ(13) C(collagen) ), and bone apatite...
متن کاملFirst insights into the microbiome of a carnivorous sponge.
Using 454 pyrosequencing, we characterized for the first time the associated microbial community of the deep-sea carnivorous Demosponge Asbestopluma hypogea (Cladorhizidae). Targeting the 16S rRNA gene V3 and V6 hypervariable regions, we compared the diversity and composition of associated microbes of two individual sponges of A. hypogea freshly collected in the cave with surrounding seawater a...
متن کاملforaminifera and stable isotopes
Foraminiferal stable isotopes and assemblages from Franz Victoria and St. Anna troughs provide a valuable record of freshwater and Atlantic Water flows to the northern Barents and Kara seas from deglaciation to present. The dO and dC of planktonic Neogloboquadrina pachyderma (s) and benthic Elphidium excavatum were up to 1.4% lower than present at ca 13, 11.5, and 10 Cka (global sea-level corre...
متن کاملEmulsion-templated silica nanocapsules formed using bio-inspired silicification.
A novel, bio-inspired templating platform technology is reported for the synthesis of biocompatible oil-core silica-shell nanocapsules with tunable shell thickness by utilizing a designed bifunctional peptide. Furthermore, facile encapsulation of an active molecule and its sustained release are demonstrated.
